PORTRAIT OF A POET
Cubs’ amazing ability to capture the spirit of New Orleans through his poetraits (where he writes a poem and paints a portrait about his subject) immediately pulled Billy in. So when Cubs invited us to his new studio in the heart of the French Quarter we didn’t hesitate.
The sounds of brass bands and jazz can be heard right outside the door of Cubs’ oxblood-red studio. It’s where you can find Cubs working on his latest poetrait or playing pool with friends. Whatever his focus, Cubs has a talent of making every moment you spend with him feel special.
Like how he listens intently to you talk while he sums up your soul in a poetrait or how he’s quick to write little phrases that prick his ears in his ever-present notebook.
A New Orleans icon in his own right, we had to get Cubs in our iconic Dover Sweatshirt to see how he’d style it.
